ABHuntLog is a feature in the free iHunter Alberta app for collecting large-scale, long-term wildlife population data. Outdoor recreationists, hunters, and Métis harvesters can voluntarily submit observations of ungulates, carnivores, waterfowl, and other game species at a Wildlife Management Unit level. All submitted data are confidential; no names or locations are recorded.
Alberta hunters and recreationists spend countless hours outdoors in remote parts of Alberta, and can provide meaningful data to assist biologists in the management of game species, and identify conservation needs. Through the iHunter Alberta app, ABHuntLog enables anonymous, self-submission of observational data that will help achieve these outcomes, as well as provide a private dashboard summary of the individual’s observations.
To visualize and understand how your ABHuntLog data can be used, go to ABHuntLog.ca to see summaries (at a WMU level) of observation rates, and sex and age ratios for some of the 2021–2023 data.
