The Leduc, AB Biodiversity Project is a long-term community science initiative surveying, documenting, and conserving the living world across the City of Leduc. Launched in May 2024, our primary goal is to build a permanent, living scientific record of every wild species within city limits—including the remarkable 10,000-year-old Telford Lake ecosystem. By tracking urban biodiversity over consecutive seasons and years, this continuous atlas helps identify local environmental hotspots, detect invasive species early, and protect our shared regional natural heritage for future generations. The initiative has already successfully aggregated over 20,000 baseline ecological observations and documented more than 1,300 local species. How to participate:Participation is open to anyone, anytime! To help, simply download the free iNaturalist app or visit iNaturalist.ca, look around your local neighborhoods or parks, and take photos or sound recordings of wild plants, animals, fungi, and insects. Once uploaded with location data enabled, your local findings will automatically sync directly into our ongoing project boundaries. Every observation counts!
