Peatlands store one-third of the world’s soil carbon and are a critical nature-based climate solution. Understanding their functioning requires improved knowledge of vegetation phenology, particularly for understory species such as sedges, mosses, and shrubs. This seminar presents results from the PeatPic Project, a community-based initiative using smartphone imagery to monitor peatland vegetation across 27 sites in 10 countries. The talk also introduces Tracking the Colour of Peatlands and highlights how community science can inform peatland conservation and restoration.
